In the rod bearings, the surface layer is thinner to better withstand fatigue.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eCompared to a standard bearing, the Race series has more housing crush, which improves retention and heat transfer, and greater eccentricity to promote an oil film when the engine is revving high.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn standard size, ACL specifies them for a rod journal of 44.956 to 44.974 mm, with a bearing width of 17.0 mm. For that diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of about 0.049 to 0.058 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been ground, the measurement changes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThey do not have the silver-tin final coating of normal bearings, so their dark color, ranging from brown and black to bluish, is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect.
