As it evaporates, the water absorbs heat and lowers the air temperature by several tens of degrees: the air enters denser, pressure and timing can be increased without needing higher octane, knocking is reduced, and exhaust temperature drops. AEM claims up to 20% more power. Water alone can be used, preferably demineralized, or a mixture of up to 50% methanol; for safety, never exceed that percentage.
