Replacing the stock bolts with studs helps keep the head gasket sealed when the engine operates with higher turbo pressure or higher compression.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThey are manufactured from 8740 chrome-moly steel, heat-treated in-house by ARP to a tensile strength of approximately 190,000 psi. ARP centerless grinds each stud after heat treatment to ensure they are straight and concentric, and thread-rolls them at the end of the process; this achieves a fatigue strength about twenty times higher than that of a thread cut before heat treatment.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eUse ARP assembly lubricant and their torque specifications, because with a different lubricant the load received by each part is not the same.
