ACL Race Series connecting rod bearings for BMW M3 E46 S54B32 (part number 6B1569H), designed for engines that will operate under much higher loads and higher RPMs than stock.
These are tri-metal bearings: SAE 1010 steel backing, a copper-lead-tin layer approximately 0.3 mm thick, a nickel barrier, and a lead-tin-copper overlay that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizure. In connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Race Series bearings feature increased crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings—two details designed to ensure the bearing remains secure and properly lubricated as the block and rod deform under load.
In standard size, ACL specifies them for a crankpin diameter of 48.975 to 48.991 mm, with a bearing width of 16.0 mm. For this diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of approximately 0.052 to 0.062 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, the dimensions will change.
They do not feature the final silver-tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark, brownish-black and bluish color is factory standard and does not indicate a defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more clearance is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
