ACL Race Series main bearing set for Opel Family II 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L, 2.4L, part number 5M2327H. These support the crankshaft in the block and, in a tuned engine, are responsible for ensuring oil reaches the entire crankshaft correctly.
Internally, they feature three layers on a high-strength steel backing: a copper-lead-tin lining, a thin nickel barrier, and a lead-tin-copper sliding layer, which is the surface that works against the crankshaft.
The upper bearings feature a full 180° oil groove, while the lower bearings have a partial groove to ensure oil flow to the connecting rods is not restricted, with a tapered groove end to prevent pressure spikes. Compared to standard bearings, the Race series has increased crush for better seating and heat transfer, as well as greater eccentricity to promote oil film thickness at high engine speeds.
For the standard size, ACL specifies this for a crankshaft journal diameter of 57.982 to 57.995 mm, and recommends an oil clearance of approximately 0.059 to 0.071 mm for this diameter. If the crankshaft has been ground, the dimensions will change.
They do not have the silver-tin final coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—a mix of brown, black, and bluish tones—is as manufactured and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more clearance is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
