ACL Race Series main bearings for Peugeot TU1JP, TU3JP, TU5J2, TU5J4, XU5J, XU5JP, part number 5M2797H. These support the crankshaft in the engine block and, in a tuned engine, the proper oil supply to the entire crankshaft depends on them.

These are tri-metal bearings: an SAE 1010 steel backing, a copper, lead, and tin layer of approximately 0.3 mm, a nickel barrier, and a surface overlay of lead, tin, and copper that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizure.

The upper shells feature a full 180° oil groove, while the lower shells have a partial groove to ensure oil flow to the connecting rods is not interrupted, with a tapered groove end to prevent pressure spikes. Race Series bearings have increased crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings, both designed to ensure the bearing remains secure and properly lubricated even when the block and rods deform under load.

In standard size, ACL specifies them for a crankshaft journal diameter of 49.962 to 49.981 mm, and recommends an oil clearance of approximately 0.053 to 0.063 mm for this diameter. If the crankshaft has been reground, the required size changes.

They do not have the silver-colored tin finish found on standard bearings, so their dark, brownish-black and bluish color is factory-standard and does not indicate a defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more clearance is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
