ACL Race Series main bearings for Toyota 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, part number 5M1695H. These support the crankshaft in the block and, in a tuned engine, are essential for ensuring oil properly reaches the entire crankshaft.
They feature a tri-metal structure with a steel backing, a copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft overlay that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads.
The upper shells have a full 180° oil groove, while the lower shells have a partial groove to ensure oil flow to the connecting rods remains unobstructed, with a tapered groove end to prevent pressure spikes. Race Series bearings have increased crush and a slightly more eccentric design than standard bearings; these two features are engineered to ensure the bearing remains secure and properly lubricated even when the block and rods deform under load.
In standard size, ACL specifies them for a crankshaft main journal diameter of 47.985 to 48.000 mm, recommending an oil clearance of approximately 0.051 to 0.061 mm for this diameter. If the crankshaft has been machined, these specifications will change.
They do not have the silver-tin final coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—a mix of brown, black, and blue tones—is factory-standard and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more clearance is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
