ACL Race Series main bearing set for Toyota and Lotus 2GR-FE V6 3.5L (Evora, Exige), part number 4M8468H. These support the crankshaft in the block, and in a tuned engine, they are responsible for ensuring oil reaches the entire crankshaft properly.
The structure is trimetal, consisting of a steel backing, copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft surface layer that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads.
The upper bearings feature a full 180° oil groove, while the lower ones have a partial groove to avoid cutting off oil flow to the connecting rods; the end of the groove is tapered to prevent pressure spikes. Race Series bearings have higher crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings, two details designed to ensure the bearing does not move and remains well-lubricated as the block and connecting rod deform under load.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a crankshaft main journal of 60.988 to 61.000 mm and recommends an oil clearance of about 0.062 to 0.074 mm for that diameter. If the crankshaft has been reground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the silver-tin flash plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—a mix of brown, black, and blue—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they are combined with the HX version, which provides 0.025 mm more clearance.
