ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 1 to 9 (4G63, 4G64 - 92+), part number 4B1185H. This is ACL's competition range, the same used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
The structure is tri-metal, with a steel backing, copper-lead-tin lining, nickel barrier, and a soft overlay that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads. In the connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to a standard bearing, the Race range has more crush in the housing, which improves retention and heat transfer, as well as greater eccentricity to favor the oil film at high engine speeds.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a rod journal of 44.981 to 44.996 mm, with a bearing width of 21.1 mm. For that diameter, an oil clearance of approximately 0.049 to 0.058 mm is recommended, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft is reground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the silver-tin final coating of normal bearings, so their dark color, ranging between brown, black, and bluish, is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they can be combined with the HX version, which provides 0.025 mm more clearance.
