ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Nissan GT-R (VR38DETT), part number 6B2500H. This is ACL’s competition range, the same as those used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.

They are tri-metal bearings: an SAE 1010 steel backing, a copper-lead-tin layer approximately 0.3 mm thick, a nickel barrier, and a surface layer of lead, tin, and copper that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizure. In the connecting rod bearings, the surface layer is thinner to better withstand fatigue.

The Race Series features increased crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings, two design details intended to prevent the bearing from shifting and to maintain proper lubrication when the block and connecting rod deform under load.

In the standard size, ACL specifies this for a connecting rod journal of 55.943 to 55.961 mm, with a bearing width of 19.0 mm. For this diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of approximately 0.058 to 0.069 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, these dimensions will change.

They do not have the final silver-tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more clearance is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
