ACL Race Series connecting rod bearings for Peugeot TU3.2, TU3J2, TU5JP, TU5JP4 (part number 4B7712H), designed for engines that will operate under much higher loads and revs than stock.
The structure is tri-metal, with a steel backing, copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft overlay that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads. In the connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to a stock bearing, the Race range has more crush, which improves retention and heat transfer, and greater eccentricity to promote the oil film when the engine is running at high RPM.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a connecting rod journal of 44.975 to 44.991 mm, with a bearing width of 19.75 mm. For that diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of about 0.049 to 0.058 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft is reground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the final silver-tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown to black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they are combined with the HX version, which provides 0.025 mm more clearance.
