ACL Race Series connecting rod bearings for Renault F8M, F8Q (part number 4B7820H), designed for engines that will operate under much higher loads and higher RPMs than stock.
They feature a three-layer construction over a high-strength steel backing: a copper-lead-tin lining, a thin nickel barrier, and a lead-tin-copper sliding layer, which is the surface that faces the crankshaft. In connecting rod bearings, this top layer is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to a stock bearing, the Race series has more housing interference, which improves retention and heat transfer, as well as greater eccentricity, which promotes oil film formation when the engine is running at high RPMs.
In standard size, ACL specifies them for a 48.000 to 48.020 mm connecting rod journal, with a bearing width of 20.5 mm. For this diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of approximately 0.051 to 0.061 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the silver-tin final coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown to black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
