ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Saab LP9 V6 2.8L Turbo, part number 6B2270H. This is ACL’s competition range, the same as that used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
The structure is trimetal, with a steel backing, copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft overlay that adapts and prevents seizing even under very high loads. In the connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
The Race Series features more crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings, two details designed to ensure the bearing does not move and maintains proper lubrication when the block and connecting rod deform under load.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a connecting rod journal of 55.992 to 56.008 mm, with a bearing width of 18.55 mm. For this diameter, an oil clearance of approximately 0.058 to 0.069 mm is recommended, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft is ground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the final silver tin coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides 0.025 mm of additional clearance.
