ACL Race Series connecting rod bearings for Subaru EJ15, EJ16 (48 mm) (part number 4B8320H), designed for engines that will operate under much higher loads and revs than stock.

They feature a tri-metal structure with a steel backing, a copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft surface layer that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads. In the rod bearings, the surface layer is thinner to better withstand fatigue.

ACL manufactures them with more "crush" (housing interference) than standard bearings to ensure they are held securely and dissipate heat more effectively, and with more eccentricity, which helps them maintain the oil film when the housing deforms at high RPM.

In standard size, ACL specifies them for a connecting rod journal of 47.984 to 48.000 mm, with a bearing width of 15.63 mm. For that diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of approximately 0.051 to 0.061 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, the measurement changes.

They do not have the final silver-tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the surface of the bearings to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.

If the crankshaft has been reground or you are unsure of the required size, please write to us with your engine code before ordering.
