These ACL Race Series connecting rod bearings, reference 4B8296H, are for Subaru EJ15, EJ16 (52 mm) engines. They are the standard choice when opening the engine for performance upgrades.

These are tri-metal bearings: a SAE 1010 steel base, a copper-lead-tin layer of about 0.3 mm, a nickel barrier, and a surface overlay of lead, tin, and copper that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizing. In connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.

The Race Series feature higher crush and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings—two details designed to ensure the bearing does not move and remains well-lubricated as the block and connecting rod deform under load.

In standard size, ACL specifies them for a connecting rod journal of 51.984 to 52.000 mm, with a bearing width of 16.5 mm. For this diameter, an oil clearance of about 0.055 to 0.065 mm is recommended, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, the measurements change.

They do not have the silver-tin final coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.

Before ordering, please confirm the measurement of your crankshaft (standard or reground); if you have any questions, write to us with your engine code.
