ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Toyota 1FZ-FE, part number 6B7990H. This is ACL's competition range, the same used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
These are tri-metal bearings: SAE 1010 steel backing, a 0.3 mm copper-lead-tin intermediate layer, a nickel barrier, and a lead-tin-copper overlay that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizure. In the connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to standard bearings, the Race range has more crush for better seating and heat transfer, and increased eccentricity to promote an oil film at high engine speeds.
In the standard size, ACL specifies them for a connecting rod journal of 56.980 to 57.000 mm, with a bearing width of 21.4 mm. For this diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of about 0.059 to 0.070 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been ground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the final silver tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark, brownish-black and bluish color is factory-standard and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
