ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Toyota 1RZ, 2RZ, 3RZ, 2TZ, reference 4B8376H. This is ACL's competition range, the same as used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
The structure is tri-metal, with a steel base, a copper-lead-tin lining, a nickel barrier, and a soft overlay that conforms and prevents seizing even under very high loads. In connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
The Race Series features more crush in the housing and a slightly more eccentric shape than standard bearings, two details designed to ensure the bearing does not move and remains well-lubricated when the block and connecting rod deform under load.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a connecting rod journal of 52.987 to 53.000 mm, with a bearing width of 19.83 mm. For that diameter, an oil clearance of about 0.055 to 0.066 mm is recommended, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been reground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the silver-tin final coating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is the factory finish and does not indicate any defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
