ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Toyota 1UZ-FE, 2UZ-FE, 3UZ-FE, part number 8B8091H. This is ACL's competition range, the same used in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
These are tri-metal bearings: a SAE 1010 steel base, a copper, lead, and tin layer of about 0.3 mm, a nickel barrier, and a lead, tin, and copper overlay that conforms to the crankshaft surface and resists seizing. In the connecting rod bearings, the overlay is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to a stock bearing, the Race range features more crush in the housing, which improves retention and heat transfer, as well as greater eccentricity to promote an oil film when the engine is at high RPM.
In standard size, ACL specifies them for a connecting rod journal of 51.981 to 51.999 mm, with a bearing width of 19.5 mm. For that diameter, they recommend an oil clearance of about 0.055 to 0.065 mm, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been ground, the measurement changes.
They do not have the final silver-tin flash plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown to black and bluish—is factory-standard and does not indicate a defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, they should be combined with the HX version, which provides 0.025 mm more clearance.
