ACL Race Series rod bearings for Volkswagen 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L (83-03)
€56,56
ACL Race Series connecting rod bearing set for Volkswagen 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L (83-03), part number 4B1606H. This is ACL’s competition range, the same as those fitted in drift, circuit, and drag racing engines.
Internally, they feature three layers on a high-strength steel backing: a copper-lead-tin lining, a thin nickel barrier, and a lead-tin-copper sliding layer, which is the surface that interfaces with the crankshaft. In connecting rod bearings, the surface layer is thinner to better withstand fatigue.
Compared to a standard bearing, the Race range has more crush, which improves seating and heat transfer, as well as greater eccentricity, which promotes the oil film when the engine is running at high RPM.
In standard size, ACL specifies this for a rod journal of 47.758 to 47.778 mm, with a bearing width of 19.0 mm. For that diameter, an oil clearance of approximately 0.051 to 0.061 mm is recommended, measured with a micrometer and bore gauge. If the crankshaft has been ground, the measurements will change.
They do not have the final silver-tin plating of standard bearings, so their dark color—ranging from brown and black to bluish—is factory-standard and does not indicate a defect. ACL advises against polishing the bearing surface to adjust clearance; if more is needed, combine them with the HX version, which provides an additional 0.025 mm of clearance.
