This ARP 204-4101 kit replaces the Volkswagen 1.8L 20V Turbo cylinder head bolts (without mounting tool, M11) with studs. It is one of the first upgrades made to an engine that is going to have its power increased, because the head gasket is one of the first points to fail.
They are manufactured from ARP2000, a proprietary alloy from ARP that reaches a tensile strength of about 220,000 psi and maintains its properties better under heat than chrome-moly. Each stud is centerless ground after heat treatment so that it is perfectly concentric, ensuring the gasket and cylinder head are aligned, and the threads are rolled after heat treatment, which according to ARP increases their fatigue strength twentyfold.
