This ARP 201-4601 kit replaces the BMW M10 (1.5L and 2.0L) cylinder head bolts with studs. It is one of the first upgrades performed on an engine intended for increased power, as the head gasket is one of the first points to fail.
They are manufactured from 8740 chrome-moly steel, heat-treated in-house by ARP to a tensile strength of approximately 190,000 psi. ARP grinds each stud after heat treatment to ensure it is straight and concentric, and rolls the threads after the heat treatment process; this results in a fatigue strength roughly twenty times greater than that of a thread cut before treatment.
