With this ARP 201-5001 kit, the main bearing caps of the BMW M3 E30 (S14B23) are secured with studs instead of bolts.
Its function is to prevent the main bearing caps from moving or rubbing against the block at high RPMs, and it also protects the block threads. They come with their hardened and ground nuts and washers. ARP manufactures them in 8740 chrome-moly treated to 190,000 psi, with the threads rolled after heat treatment.
Follow the torque and tightening sequence in the ARP instructions, which are calculated for their assembly lubricant; with motor oil, the actual torque changes. If you have any doubts about whether this is the correct part number for your engine, write to us with the engine code and year.
