How to choose the heat range
In the part number, the letters indicate the shape and thread of the spark plug, and the number (from 6 to 9) indicates the heat range. The higher the number, the colder the spark plug and the better it dissipates heat from the chamber, which is necessary for tuned engines, turbo engines, or track use, because it reduces the risk of detonation.
Only install a colder spark plug if your engine requires it. If you choose a range that is too cold, it may be difficult to start in cold weather and the idle may be irregular. With E85 ethanol, it is also not advisable to lower the heat range.
