This IRP short shifter is for the Mazda MX-5 NA/NB with a 5-speed transmission. Its function is to reduce the throw between gears for faster and more precise shifting, which is noticeable on both the track and the road.
It is CNC-machined from aluminum with stainless steel parts, and it retains the original H-pattern and gearbox linkage. The gear stops are adjustable via screws, which prevents errors like mis-shifting during a quick downshift.
Competition part. It is normal for the transmission to be louder than with the stock shifter. With firm engine and transmission mounts, or at least ones in good condition, the feel is greatly improved.
